Online platforms owned by the owners of the big four US networks have secured leadership of the free online TV market in the US. Hulu, backed by News Corp, NBC Universal and ABC Disney, and the ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox websites, accounted for more than half of a $448m market last year, a market that GMI forecasts will increase in value to $1.45bn by 2013. Within three years, online TV services will generate higher revenues per viewer than average broadcast TV shows within three years - provided operators are able to increase inventory and ad values.
