With 22 deals versus 44 in Q1 2008, the quarterly number of mobile content mergers and acquisitions dropped by 50% year-on-year. The current climate favours consolidation, and bigger companies with substantial cash reserves might seize the opportunity to acquire attractive assets at bargain prices. Microsoft looks to be interested in categories like internet and mobile search and advertising. Google is likely to target smaller companies to acquire IP and talent.
